I love texture and pattern. In tapestry weaving terms this is most specifically about the feel of the warp and weft in my fingers and the repetitive rhythm of weaving.
Having grown up in Belfast in the ‘60s and ‘70s but living away now for 30 years or more, much of my work in the past 10 – 12 years has been about conflict. In more recent years this has become as much about personal conflict as national or international – and this relates closely to identity.
Being born in Scotland, growing up in N. Ireland, training in England and living in Wales has greatly influenced my sense of identity (or lack of it) as well as giving me an interesting view point on national identity and conflict. I have tried to reflect this through my work as an artist and tapestry weaver.
