Jennifer Woolnough

I try to capture the spirit of the thing that I am weaving, to undertand it. This might be a fleeting moment, an intensity of colour, a dream or a memory.

Forming the design can be the most agonising period for me, things have to be right in terms of reseach, composition and colour before I can proceed.  I tend to do 2 - 3 tapestries along the same theme, but for those 3 tapestires there will be sketchbooks of potential designs.

My current work explores folklore - a theme inspired by a dream.

I also produce knitted pieces and paintings to support my tapestries.

I studied a BSc (Hons) Textile Design and Technology at the University of Huddersfield before graduating with an MA from the Royal College of Art in 1995.
