I am a textile artist currently drawing inspiration from the movement of water, attempting to capture fleeting images in the form of abstract shapes from the ebb and flow and light upon the surface.
I usually start by sketching, then analysing colour. When weaving I mix the colours of the yarns as one might do with paint; or with my current theme – as one pool of water may mix with another. This time I have designed a series of pieces based around a theme which helps me get to grips with what I am trying to express through yarns.
I also produce knitted pieces and paintings to support my tapestries.
I studied a BSc (Hons) Textile Design and Technology at the University of Huddersfield before graduating with an MA from the Royal College of Art in 1995.
