AGM 2017- held in London on 4 November

The Annual General Meeting of The British Tapestry Group was held on 4th November at Student Central, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HY.

William Jefferies gave a talk “Extending the Boundaries of Traditional Tapestry Weaving” where we had the pleasure of viewing images of many of his diverse and wonderful tapestries.

AGM 2016 – held in Edinburgh on 24 September

AGM 2016

The Annual Genral Meeting of The British Tapestry Group was held on the 24th September at Jury’s Inn, 43 Jeffrey Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1DH

An interactive event titled “Narratives of past, place and self in Scottish craft” was introduced with a talk by Professor Stena Nenandic of Edinburgh University.

The BTG Scotland group’s exhibition, The Golden Fibre (inspired by jute) opens on 25 July at Scotland’s Jute Museum, Dundee. See The Golden Fibre for more information. 28 BTG members will be exhibiting work at the Heallreaf exhibition at West Dean College, West Dean from 1st August 2015 – 8th August 2015.

BTG member Carol Bartlett has a residency at Ruthin Craft Centre, North Wales with potter Linda Caswell from 4-13 September 2015. This is part of the Helfa Gelf Art Trail – an open studios event covering five counties in North Wales.  They will be working on a joint project under the theme of “What is craft?”.  Carol is a tapestry weaver and Linda a potter, and they will be working at Ruthin between 11am and 5pm from Friday 4th to Sunday 13th September.

They will then be opening their own studios near Trawsfynydd, Gwynedd on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 18th, 19th & 20th and 25th, 26th & 27th September.  If you can only come on the intervening weekdays, phone first to check we shall be there.  01766 540237.

BTG member Katie Russell’s Arctic Convoy Tapestry Weavings are on show during August in St Mary’s Cathederal as part of the Edinburgh Festival. Her tapestries form part of the exhibition. ‘The Arctic Convoys – Men and Ice‘, which is an exhibition of stories, photographs and tapestries about the men in the Arctic Convoys who received the Ushakov medal in 2014. The exhibition is on throughout August at St Mary’s Cathedral, 23 Palmerston Place, EH12 5AW. The venue number in the Festival is 91. Mon-Sat 9am-1pm, 2pm-5pm. Sunday 12-3pm.

BTG members Gillian Bull and Dianne Miles are exhibiting tapestries as part of The Equinox Group exhibition: A Feast for the Senses on from 21 July – 2 August 2015  Wilson Studio, Oxmarket Centre of Arts, St Andrew’s Court Off East Street Chichester PO19 1YH. Tues 21 July – Sunday 2 August from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm. Private View 20 July 6-8 pm. The six exhibiting members of the Equinox Group all took the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at West Dean, and met on a follow-up day a couple of years ago. They exhibited at West Dean last year, but this is their first exhibition in a venue open to the general public.

The Annual General Meeting of the British Tapestry Group took place at 12:30 on Saturday 8th November at Lumen, 88, Tavistock Place, London WCIH 9RS.

A number of Scottish Regional members will be taking part in this year’s open studios, which runs from the 6-14 June.  See:
