Medieval Tapestries, Mosaics, History, Film, Archaeology and gardens and flowers in particular, influence my choices to create tapestries, saturated with color and rich mixtures complimented with sensuous outlines of gold or black.
A graduate of the Tapestry Dept of Edinburgh Collage of Art, I then entered the world of Antiques and Interior Design before a three year stint at the Dovecot Studios.

I like to let the weaving dictate where it’s going and therefore work from a very basic cartoon of a few key lines and hinds of colour, light and shade.

Joan Eytle Kendall is exhibiting in Dance to the Path as part of the Dulwich Festival 2012 Open House. This is a collaborative installation by six SLWA (South London Women Artists) based on the Wave Dance by Gabrielle Roth. 12-20 May 2012.

BTG members take part in many group exhibitions with other artists. During May and June, you can see tapestry weaving by BTG members in the following exhibitions both here and abroad.

Joy Smith is exhibiting Still Life in the Shed (&no flying ducks!) at the Hawthorn Studio and Gallery, 635 Burwood Road, Hawthorn East, VIC 3123 (5 doors from Auburn Road), Australia. Dates: 12 May to 2 June. Opening Saturday 12 May, 4-6 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday 11 am – 5 pm , Sunday & Monday by appointment.

Deborah Pawle’s tapestries will be on display along with the work of 5 other artists in the exhibition Through Another’s Eyes – Interpretation of Landscape which is being held at the Bristol Guild Gallery, Park Street, Bristol, BS1 5JY from 16 June to 7 July. It is open 10-5 Monday to Saturday. In this exhibition, the artists explore their own personal relationships with landscape through light and movement, growth, decay and mythology.

Christine Paine is exhibiting a tactile weaving in 4 U 2 TOUCH by Christchurch and District Arts Members until 27 May. The emphasis of this exhibition is to encourage visitors, including the visually impaired and people with disabilities, to touch the exhibits. It is displayed within a mixed media art exhibition of textiles, pottery, paintings and woodcraft with some lovely quirky pieces. The exhibition is on at Highcliffe Castle, Rothesay Drive, Highcliffe, Dorset BH23 4LE until 27 May. (Castle entrance fee applies).

ARTAPESTRY3, organised by the European Textile Network (ETN) opens in Silkeborg Bad on 17 May and runs until 26 August. This is an international juried exhibition which includes tapestries by BTG members Marie-Thumette Brichard, Fiona Hutchison, Kirsten Glasbrook, Anne Jackson and Jane Freear-Wyld.

Three tapestry weavers from different backgrounds explore Shropshire and its stories through the work of Maralyn Hepworth, Pauline Fisk and Lindsey Marshall. SHROPSHIRE YARNS will be held at Gallery 3, The Gateway Education & Arts Centre, Chester Street, Shrewsbury, SY1 1NB from 8th September to 13th October 2012.

This year, the Scottish regional group have volunteered to organise and host the 2012 AGM as part of a day’s workshop activities. The location is the Chalmers Hall, Bridge of Allan, near Stirling. More details of the workshop, travel and accommodation will be provided as soon as possible. Please put the date in your diary – it promises to be a fun day. It is hoped that as many of you as possible will be able to attend.
