Colour for me is often the starting point for a new tapestry. The seemingly random choice is determined by temporary emotions dependent on seasonal changes and recent experiences.

For the process of designing the main job is to condense the initial idea, eliminate the superfluous, to refine and structure. There are periods when I use a lot of strong colours, then turning again to very pale and subtle tones for a while, concentrating on form and shape.

A new piece or whole series is usually inspired by a particular mood, atmosphere or instant visual experience in nature: fog rolling down a mountain-side, frozen grasses and seed heads in winter, puddles and droplets gathering on leaves after rain, lines and shadows drawn by light.

I enjoy producing variations on the same theme, exploring materials and grouping smaller units to create a larger piece or installation.
