Tapestry of the North : Our Textile Heritage
Tapestry of the North: Our Textile Heritage showcases work from the talented North of England members of the British Tapestry Group, the exhibition consists of a series of hand-woven tapestries in a diverse range of styles and techniques. The works have been created by tapestry artists of all levels, from renowned professionals to more recent converts to this historic medium.
The work in the exhibition reflects the textile heritage of the north of England, from links with the River Tees to carpet making, linen weaving and textile dyeing to slave grown cotton in America and the weaving of it in Lancashire Mills and Cottonopolis, wool production and sheep farming across the hills and dales and the architectural and artistic legacy of the Mill buildings themselves.
