‘Tapestry weaving offers a saturation of intense colour and a softness and warmth which is hard to rival in any other art form. These are the qualities that endear me to the medium and stimulate a continual desire to create.
The composition and stylization within Elizabethan embroidery, medieval tapestries and botanical woodcuts are just some of the reference points which inspire. Symmetry, intensity of colour, delicacy and the suggestion of sunshine constantly draws me back to incorporating flora in my work. The creative process of looking back to look forward.
The resulting ‘jigsaw’ composition often includes a play on perspective. To me each tapestry is a ‘captured windows’ telling us that we rarely see things as a whole, but the interruption of one image by another can tease and surprise, as well as create something (hopefully) quite joyous to behold.’
A graduate of both Goldsmiths University of London and the Royal College of Art, Jennie’s work has been widely exhibited and commissioned for both private and corporates including: tapestries for Lambeth Palace Chapel, The Institute of Actuaries and hangings for Portcullis House at the Palace of Westminster.
