Pascale Dominique Barrett
As a new tapestry weaver my interest lies mainly with colour and form, my work is about exploring texture in yarn and discovering which one I will latch onto and develop to its full potential. My exciting journey is just beginning: a self-taught tapestry artist I started quite late, at 65 years old. May 2022 is when I completed my first small tapestry Westbury White Horse. My focus till then was very diverse from painting, sculpture, photography to sewing and needlepoint, every day without fail I work on one project or other. For 35 years, combining working and supporting my art singlehandedly has been achievable through determination and passion, whilst also bringing up four daughters.
I fell in love with this style of weaving, the experiences just get better and better. I feel as if time stands still when I am at my loom, no need to rush, the creative process is so satisfying and rewarding. Because of starting this wonderful art form so late in life I know I my work will never adorn palaces or government offices and in a strange way it is quite liberating. I can enjoy the meditative process and celebrate the joy Tapestry Weaving brings to my life.
