Margaret Crowther

My training was in Painting and Art Teaching, I taught in London for some years. I began weaving in the 1980s at Elda Abramson's studio and developed my own techniques for making three dimensional work, both hanging and free-standing. This continues to be an area for exploration and has led to constructions using non-tapestry techniques. Much work however is woven but with added warp and weft threads that are manipulated by hand. I use mainly tough yarns such as sisal and paper.

Most of my work is done to commission and is in private houses abroad and in the UK. Some works can be seen at my home in South Manchester by arrangement. I have a large weaving in The Garrick Playhouse, Barrington Road, Altrincham, Cheshire which can be seen when the theatre is open. I do not take courses but I am happy to meet anyone to discuss the work and techniques.
