Yoshiko Nakano

I studied traditional Japanese dyeing and weaving techniques, including shibori, kasuri (ikat), and katazome, and developed these methods to create three-dimensional art pieces. I earned a degree in Constructed Textiles from Seian College of Art and Design in Kyoto. I then continued further study in the Tapestry department at Edinburgh College of Art, where I obtained a master’s degree in tapestry. My admiration for the beautiful modern tapestries created by British artists inspired me to further develop my weaving skills there.

I prefer to express my thoughts and everyday experiences through woven pieces rather than drawings or paintings, as this approach brings the tactile nature of the art form to life. Currently, I am exploring traditional techniques and investigating how they can be adapted for contemporary applications.
