I work with textiles and mixed media but am predominately a tapestry weaver. Most of my work uses muted colours and is heavily influenced by the environment surrounding me. The textural element of tapestry is important to me and I use driftwood and other found objects in many of my tapestries: sometimes using photographs as reminders but mainly working intuitively which can cause a few curses and unpicking before reaching a satisfactory result.
My work is usually small scale working with predominately natural yarns, cotton, silk and nettle, but I will use other yarns to achieve the effect I am looking for. I have also been experimenting with a wire warp to create three-dimensional pieces and look forward to developing this work.
I learnt to weave about twelve years ago and am still experimenting and learning new techniques all the time and have only recently started exhibiting and selling work.
