I have been weaving tapestries for 30 years since discovering this medium on my textile degree course at West Surrey College of Art & Design.
I have taken part in many exhibitions with various groups. I regularly exhibit with the South West Textile Group and usually participate in the North Somerset Arts Week.
I am fascinated by the depth of colour and texture that can be created and also by the slow emergence of the image which changes as the tapestry develops.
I derive my inspiration from landscape, seascape and architecture. My pieces are woven using a scaffolding frame, on a cotton warp @ 10 ends per inch in linens and cottons. The pieces are small no larger than a metre square. I mix plain weave with 3D effects such as knotting and wrapping techniques to achieve the effect I want. I concentrate mainly on colour, texture and composition. I work directly from photos or sketches of places I have visited.
Recent pieces have been of Spitzbergen and I have just completed pieces based on the English seashore.
